Recently, U.S. FBI agents raided the home of Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan, who called the operation an attack of last resort. In his opinion, the police action is part of a government tendency to attack startups that do not correspond to its partisan interests.
The platform run by Coplan is suspected of allowing betting by US citizens, as well as manipulation. Both cases are flatly denied by the 26-year-old businessman. He claims that his betting firm is impartial. In that sense, it only mediates between the aspirations of users and safe bets through the Blockchain.
Regarding the participation of American users, the company assures that it does everything possible to block attempts to use VPNs. This betting platform became relevant during the United States presidential campaign and earned the scorn of pollsters and the traditional media.
Basically, the firm became a benchmark by expressing the electoral results with a greater degree of precision, something in which the pollsters failed. Even Ethereum‘s own co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, called the platform an effective source of information. In the midst of this context, the authorities decided to attack Coplan itself.
Last resort attack against startups, writes CEO of Polymarket
In the aforementioned FBI operation, officials requested the cell phone and other electronic devices from the CEO of Polymarket. Later, he wrote in X that he had a new phone. Later, he criticized the current government administration, which he accused of persecuting startups that do not coincide with its party interests.
Although Coplan maintains that Polymarket is impartial, he implies that the Democratic government is going against him out of revenge. In the same way as the Republicans, the businessman believes that the outgoing US government uses state agencies to carry out political persecution against its opponents. In the case of Polymarket, this was limited to reflecting the vision of the bettors.
«Polymarket has brought value to tens of millions of people in this election cycle, without causing harm to anyone. “We are deeply proud of it,” he wrote. Likewise, he stated that he is confident in the future and says that the future for American entrepreneurs is now bright. With the latter he makes clear reference to Donald Trump’s promises.
It should be noted that Polymarket’s results greatly favored Trump and hence it was widely cited by Republicans during the campaign.
The latter led the media, mostly Democratic-oriented, to describe it as a tool to present Trump as the winner using artificial percentages. At the end of the day, it was the pollsters and the media who presented an artificial technical tie that never existed.
