Singer Taylor Swift has endorsed Kamala Harris in the US presidential race, citing AI-generated deepfake images of her shared by Donald Trump as the reason behind her decision.
In an Instagram post, Swift wrote: “Recently, I learned that an AI-generated image of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential bid was posted on your site,” adding that the incident “really raised my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation.”
“It led me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter,” Swift said, adding that, “The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” and emphasizing that “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump shared a series of AI-powered fake images on his Truth Social account, including one showing Taylor Swift mimicking the pose of a World War II “Uncle Sam” poster, with the caption “Taylor Wants You To Vote For Donald Trump.”

Other deepfake images showed young women wearing “Swifties for Trump” T-shirts, claiming that the singer’s fans were “turning on Trump” after her concerts in Vienna were cancelled following a terror threat, which the publication attributed to ISIS.
In a later interview, Trump acknowledged that he knew the Taylor Swift images were not real, stating, “I don’t know anything about them except that they were generated by somebody else.” Adding, “I didn’t generate them; somebody came out, they said, ‘Oh, look at this.’ This was all made up by other people.”
Trump added that artificial intelligence was “dangerous” and that deepfakes are also “happening to me.”
During his campaign, Trump shared several AI-generated images, including one of Kamala Harris addressing a Soviet rally.
Deepfakes are images, videos, or audio content created using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to depict real individuals in fake situations. World leaders, policymakers, and law enforcement have expressed concern about their proliferation, citing their use in scams, political disinformation, and nonconsensual pornography.
