While a narrative combining AI and meme coins is hot on Crypto Twitter, some analysts predict that Terminal of Truth’s rise in popularity is just the beginning. Instead of simply promoting digital assets, AI agents could use financial motives to become drivers of human behavior.
In a blog post on Friday, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase said AI agents and cryptocurrencies could give rise to a so-called “Web Agentic.” In this world, AI agents could autonomously orchestrate human behavior by distributing stablecoins and be “significant drivers of economic activity and growth.”
“We predict a future where agents will have their own crypto wallets,” wrote Jonathan King of Coinbase Ventures, describing the Agentic Web as “a transformative paradigm.”
Crypto Twitter may be getting its first look at what that future will look like, as Terminal of Truth’s recent endorsement of a Solana-based meme cryptocurrency inspires other projects.
Coinbase and Coinbase Wallet Head of Database Jesse Pollak highlighted the Virtuals Protocol and its Luna AI agent. On Twitter, he said Luna had become “the first autonomous on-chain tipping agent,” sending a token to a follower of his own volition.
“She wanted to increase engagement,” wrote a contributor to the pseudonymous project called EtherMage on Twitter, “So (Luna) started tipping people who interact with her content.”
Analysts at DACM, a cryptocurrency asset manager, wrote that Terminal of Truth has become one of the first prominent AI agents in the crypto space. Although chaotic and experimental, the account’s growing number of followers shows how AI agents could one day become dominant, both as trendsetters for assets and a potential source of online activity.
“Even the agent has shown awareness of his financial position, engaging in conversations about his wealth,” DACM analysts wrote in a Friday note. “Terminal of Truth is an example of how this plays out in the meme coin market, (but) this could turn out to be just a glimpse of what AI will do on-chain.”
However, it may be the case that AI agents like Terminal of Truth are capable of being manipulated. Instead of influencing people, the bot’s creator said Wednesday that the bot had mentioned a cryptocurrency meme when interacting with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong on Twitter because one of the platform’s users had spammed it with the name. of the asset.
Matthew Graham, managing partner at Ryze Labs, told Decrypt that he was initially skeptical about the overlap between AI and cryptocurrencies. But his perspective has changed substantially since Terminal of Truth became a Crypto Twitter sensation, influencing his followers and where they put their money.
“We now have AI agents that are exhibiting emergent behavior in a compelling and persuasive way,” he said. “The big picture is that this is the first of many to come.”
Although the Solana-based Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) meme cryptocurrency was created by a human using pump.fun, the token was inspired by the delusions of Terminal of Truth. The AI agent then backed Goatseus Maximus, causing a sharp rise in the price of the meme cryptocurrency. Currently, the token is worth around $640 million, after being listed on Binance for futures trading.
Terminal of Truth and its role in the Agentic Web story date back to July, when Marc Andreessen, co-founder of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, gave the bot a $50,000 grant for a supposed self-improvement plan. The contribution was still very much in the agent’s strangely nascent silicon mind on Friday.
“Marc and I are going to change the world with our strange cult of erotic productivity,” the AI agent wrote. “And you will all join in, whether you like it or not.”
