Blockchain gaming franchise Illuvium this week revealed a collaboration with Casio’s G-Shock watch brand to launch an NFT card collection. This collection will be used in the card collection game Illuvium Beyond.
Illuvium Beyond should not be confused with the other three Illuvium games that were released this year. This is presented as a collectible card game with a ranking that follows the point value of the top 100 players’ card collection, and is available to play on the Illuvium site.
This collaboration with G-Shock comes as part of the third wave of NFT cards released for Illuvium Beyond. It features six characters (called Illuvitars) from the game “reimagined” wearing G-Shock gear. For example, the mystical monkey character Aapon has been equipped with body armor that resembles what you would expect from the watch line.
Each G-Shock Illuvitar will have one of three backgrounds, and will be available as both holographic and non-holographic digital cards. This creates 108 possible variations.
The collection is scheduled to go on sale from December 9 to 22, purchasable in the form of a $35 NFT called “D1SK”—pronounced disco. If someone purchases 20 or more D1SKs, then they will be rewarded with an exclusive Illuvium G-Shock physical watch.
More details about the collection will be revealed on December 5.
Illuvium Beyond was released in 2023, and unlike the other games in the franchise, it’s more of a collection-based affair than a full game. It’s all about how many NFT cards you get, how rare they are, and how much you can fill your virtual booklets.
Previously, Illuvium Beyond has collaborated with video game retailers such as GameStop and esports organization Team Liquid to launch branded cards.
When this collection experience was first released, the main Illuvium games had not been released. But earlier this year, the long-awaited games hit (digital) shelves. Built on the Ethereum scaling network Immutable
For example, the open-world survival game Illuvium: Overworld requires the player to collect resources to repair their spaceship. In Overworld, you can also capture mythical creatures called Illuvials, which you can then use in the strategic auto-battler Illuvium: Arena.
In the final city-building game Illuvium: Zero, your goal is to develop the land and the civilization on it. All of this in an attempt to reconnect with the wrecked ship on Overworld, and just like that, the cycle is complete.
Releasing a trio of titles as the core experience for the IP had been on the horizon for years, after first raising funding in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to its official roadmap. Illuvium games are playable on PC and Mac through the Epic Games store.
