After the first day of the G-20 Summit taking place today in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, the Government of Javier Milei announced that it signed the group’s declaration, but with reservations. This highlights his rejection of the provisions related to the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda.
The signing of the declaration of presidents by Argentina, this year, marks a significant turn in its position, since as the same statement makes clear, for the first time since it is part of the group, signed in partial dissent from “all content linked to the 2030 Agenda”.
This decision reflects the position of the Argentine president regarding the role that multilateral organizations have been playing in addressing global challenges. In theory, these bodies were created so that nations could “cooperate voluntarily, as equals and autonomously, to, among other things, safeguard the basic rights of people.” However, he warned that the direction has been lost for some time.
“Today, almost 70 years after this system of international cooperation was inaugurated, the time has come to recognize that this model is in crisis, because it has long lacked its original purpose.”
Official statement of the president of Argentina.
He adds, in his official statement, that without intending to hinder the declaration of the other leaders, he signed the document, but making it clear that it does not accompany several points of it, among them, all those contemplated in the so-called UN Agenda 2030. This includes promoting the limitation of freedom of expression on social networksthe violation of sovereignty by global governance institutions and the idea that greater state intervention is the solution to combat hunger.
Milei also distanced himself from the tax on large fortunes that Brazil’s president, Lula da Silva, seeks to promote, and remarked: “If we want to fight hunger and eradicate poverty, the solution is to move to the middle State.”
In this way, Milei reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a critical stance towards certain global policies that it considers counterproductive to the autonomy of States and the human rights of individuals.
This is what the Argentine president expressed last September when he attacked the UN for “its tragic course.” In his opinion, the measures proposed by the organization to eradicate poverty, inequality and discrimination are insufficient and, on the contrary, “deepen these problems” by imposing legislation that limits individual freedoms.
As CriptoNoticias reported itat the time, stressed the importance of learning from the past and argued that “world history demonstrates that the only way to ensure prosperity is by limiting the power of the monarch.”
In this sense, Milei once again calls on the international community to highlight the importance of promote freedom in all its forms, that is, freedom of expression, worship and commerce.
«We must deregulate economic activity to free the market and facilitate trade, and that the voluntary exchange of goods and services is what brings prosperity. “Free market capitalism has already lifted 90% of the global population out of extreme poverty and doubled life expectancy,” says the statement issued today by the Milei government.
