Crypto Mining giant MARA Holdings, formerly Marathon Digital, has called on the United States to take a more aggressive approach to acquiring and mining Bitcoin.
According to a statement published on November 26, the company considers that securing a dominant position in the sector is a matter of economic and national security, especially in the face of the growing trend of global de-dollarization.
Bitcoin: the new “digital gold”
MARA argues that although the dollar is no longer directly backed by gold, reserves of this metal remain crucial to national security.
Currently, the United States holds over 200,000 Bitcoin, followed closely by China with 190,000 BTC. By comparison, U.S. gold reserves amount to 8,133 metric tons, compared to China’s 2,264 tons, according to data from the World Gold Council.
“Bitcoin is gaining importance as a financial and geopolitical tool, and the country that controls a significant part of the global hashrate will be able to prevent adversary nations from manipulating transactions or exerting external pressure,” MARA stressed.

The statement also highlighted that Donald Trump’s administration, known for its favorable stance towards cryptocurrencies, could motivate other nations to accumulate Bitcoin reserves. Against this backdrop, MARA emphasized that failing to ensure control of a significant percentage of the global hashrate could leave the United States vulnerable in an evolving financial system.

Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, MARA concentrates much of its operations in states such as Texas, North Dakota and Nebraska, although it also has alliances in Paraguay and Dubai. The company urges quick action to prevent other nations, particularly China, from taking the lead in the Bitcoin sector.
