On December 17, the world of golf will experience a historic event with the Crypto.com Showdown, a unique confrontation between figures from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, representing the PGA, will compete against LIV’s Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in a Ryder Cup-type format of play at the iconic Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas.
A revolutionary Cryptocurrency prize
The event, sponsored by Crypto.com, will feature a millionaire pot in CROthe platform’s native cryptocurrency. This prize money exceeds the usual purse of most PGA tournaments, except for majors and featured events, which are usually around $8-$9 million.
As announced by Crypto.com CMO Steve Kalifowitz, players will need to register on the platform to receive their prizes in CRO. Although they are not required to keep the cryptocurrency, they can sell or exchange it if they wish. Details regarding the distribution of the prize between the winning and losing teams have not yet been revealed.

The Crypto.com Showdown will be broadcast live on TNT at 6 pm ET and promises to be an exciting experience with rounds of four-ball play, alternating shots and singles matches. This format is reminiscent of events like the inaugural edition of “The Match” in 2018, where Phil Mickelson took home $9 million after beating Tiger Woods.
