Ragnarok Landverse, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) enhanced with blockchain elements from the classic Ragnarok Online franchise, will launch on the Ethereum sidechain gaming network Ronin in early 2025.
The Ronin version, called Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis, will be implemented on Ronin after its previous launch on BNB Chain. Developer Maxion, in collaboration with Ragnarok publisher Gravity, reported that the game has already racked up $15 million in NFT sales ahead of the expansion to Ronin, with more than 400,000 players to date.
Ragnarok Landverse is a free-to-play game for PC and Android that features similar gameplay to the original Ragnarok Online, an influential and popular MMORPG released in 2002. However, this version incorporates blockchain elements such as mineable resources and token rewards.
The Genesis version being released on Ronin is considered a “new beginning” for the game, meaning that assets from other Landverse servers will not be transferable initially. However, these servers are planned to migrate to Ronin at a later date.
Zentry, Maxion’s parent company, will also maintain a validator node on the Ronin network as part of this expansion. The company describes itself as building a “metagame ecosystem” of interconnected Web3 games. Zentry rebranded from the previous name GuildFi in April.
Landverse will be the second Ragnarok game to launch on Ronin, following the debut of Ragnarok: Monster World. That mobile game was inspired by Supercell’s popular Clash Royale, where two players command teams of creatures and throw them into battle to try to be the first to take down the opponent’s base.
Ronin is a prominent gaming network in the Ethereum ecosystem. It is home to important games in the crypto ecosystem such as Pixels and Axie Infinity, the latter developed by Sky Mavis, the studio that created the network. Since its launch with Axie Infinity, the network has gradually expanded to include even more games from third-party developers.
Pre-registration is now open for Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis, and players can connect their Ronin digital wallets for potential rewards before launch.
In November, DeLabs Games announced another blockchain game in the Ragnarok universe, with plans to release it through the Telegram messaging app in the first quarter of 2025.
