Playtron and Mysten Labs, the creators of the Sui Blockchain, have revealed more details about the upcoming SuiPlay0x1 handheld crypto gaming console, noting that pre-orders for the device are now open and early payers will receive an NFT reward.
The SuiPlay0x1 aims to rival Valve’s Steam Deck as a powerful portable gaming device that can run PC games and crypto games — a key difference between the devices. Currently priced at $599 (plus shipping and tax), the SuiPlay0x1 sits between the prices of the 512GB and 1TB versions of the OLED Steam Decks at $549 and $649 respectively.
The Cryptocurrency gaming device has been confirmed to come with 512GB of SSD storage, powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor and an AMD Ryzen 780M graphics card.
According to a statement, the device will sport a 1920 x 1200 resolution on a bezel-less 7-inch IPS display. It will measure 26.45 cm x 10.55 cm x 2.15 cm, weighing 677g, running the Linux-based Playtron operating system, with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 capabilities.
Pre-orders for the device are now live, with players able to pay in Sui, Ethereum, or Solana. The first 1,000 people to order a device will receive an NFT tied to it, which cannot be transferred from the original creation wallet and will provide special rewards and benefits down the road.
“The SuiPlay0x1 will demonstrate that games that seamlessly incorporate blockchain technology look and feel just like traditional ‘Web2’ games,” said Adeniyi Abiodun, chief product officer and co-founder of Mysten Labs, in a statement. “It will show gamers around the world that player ownership, enabled by blockchain technology, can provide a deeper and more engaging gaming experience without disrupting their fun.”
This comes ahead of the official launch of the cryptocurrency console planned for next year. Although no official date has been set, the recent press release indicates that delivery of pre-orders will begin in 2025.
The SuiPlay0x1 is the latest in a line of cryptocurrency-native handhelds, such as last year’s Solana Saga handheld, which was considered a “moonshot” for its creators. Other handhelds have since been announced, such as the BitBoy One, which seeks to bring Bitcoin-focused gaming to a Game Boy-style device.
