In summary
- Tomarket decided to launch its TOMA token on Aptos instead of TON.
- The TOMA token will be distributed via airdrop starting December 20.
- The decision was based on the scalability and speed offered by Aptos.
Tomarket, a popular game on Telegram that can be played on the messaging platform as a mini app, is abandoning its original plan to launch its token on The Open Network (TON) and will instead deploy TOMA on the rival layer 1 network Apts.
With 50 million total users and 6 million daily active users, Tomarket will launch its TOMA token on December 20, with an airdrop for players who meet certain in-game criteria.
Tomarket has distributed token allocations through multiple airdrop waves, but players have been unable to withdraw or exchange the token. The app’s developers previously said that the TOMA token was generated, but later clarified that the term was used to describe token allocations within the app. And now, Tomarket will finally not be implemented on TON.
“Aptos’ high speed and reliable infrastructure provides the scalability Tomarket needs to support its growing user base while delivering seamless and efficient Blockchain experiences,” a member of Tomarket’s core team known as Miles told Decrypt.
After the token launch next week, Tomarket plans to expand its offerings, including introducing more games, improving its FarmingPool rewards program, and launching an aggregator of decentralized exchanges, or DEXs.
Most of the Telegram-based games in the crypto ecosystem, including heavyweights like Hamster Kombat and Notcoin, have opted to deploy on TON, helping drive adoption of the chain this year. TON is now the 16th most valuable Cryptocurrency by market capitalization, according to data from CoinGecko, increasing its price by approximately 190% over the past year.
However, Tomarket is not the first game to choose an alternative path: tap-to-earn combat game MemeFi recently launched its token on Sui, after switching from its original chain to the Ethereum layer 2 network, Linea.
