Sam Altman’s digital identity project, World (formerly Worldcoin) wants to return to Spain in 2025 despite the difficulties. Management from the firm behind the protocol, Tools For Humanity, says it is ready to address regulators’ security concerns. However, contact with the latter seems scarce.
In 2023, the protocol began operations in Spain, but within a few months the authorities began to fear for the privacy of citizens. The latter was related to the firm’s data collection tools and the lack of clarity regarding data management. Thus, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) decided to act.
This year, authorities ordered the immediate halt of the project’s operations in the European country. However, the directive ensures that all regulators’ concerns have already been effectively addressed. The big problem is establishing contact again with the AEPD, they explain.
With renewed tools and a strengthening of data management, the World project wants to return to the lucrative Spanish market again. The company ensures that it offers verifiable guarantees that its operations are completely transparent and safe for people.

According to company spokespersons, the new measures allow user data and their identities to not be associated. This puts to rest fears that the company manages a database of extremely sensitive people’s data.
Meanwhile, the method of scanning the retinas also presents substantial changes. Particularly, the firm ensures that this data will be stored by third parties and not by the company. In a consultation with local media, representatives of the protocol confirm that they are now up to date with all European standards on data management.
In that sense, all the concerns expressed by the AEPD were addressed and neutralized. From now on, all that remains is the evaluation by the regulators so that the World project returns to the European country next year. If the return occurs, it would be an enormous achievement for this Sam Altman firm.
The latter includes the price of its WLD token, which has been experiencing serious problems since the middle of the year. At the time of writing this note, the price of the coin is $2.42 per unit, with a decrease of 8% in 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.
