Featured News
Eve Frontier on Ethereum: Eve Online creator CCP Games announced Thursday that its upcoming blockchain survival game formerly known as Project Awakening will be rebranded as Eve Frontier—and will be built within the Ethereum ecosystem.
The on-chain space simulator will feature multiple crypto tokens that will be issued using Ethereum’s ERC-20 token standard. And it’s being developed on Redstone, an Ethereum layer-2 network built on Optimism technology that’s primed for on-chain autonomous game worlds. The game’s next closed beta test begins later this month.
Hamster Kombat and Catizen Giveaways on Binance: Viral tap-to-win Telegram game Hamster Kombat confirmed on Thursday that the total supply of its token will be 100 billion. Along with this announcement, it was revealed that billions of tokens will be given to customers of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange for participating in a Launchpool bounty campaign.
Customers in legally permitted countries (sorry, US folks, you’re excluded) will be able to stake Binance Coin (BNB) and the FDUSD stablecoin in the week-long rewards campaign to earn a share of HMSTR tokens. The campaign will run from September 19 to September 26, the token launch date on The Open Network (TON).
The following day, Telegram game Catizen confirmed similar plans, giving away 90 million tokens (out of a supply of 1 billion CATI) in a Binance Launchpool campaign that will run from September 16 to 19. Additionally, on Saturday, Catizen revealed airdrop allocations to players and allowed them to choose whether they would like to send those tokens to a centralized exchange account once the token is generated on September 20.
Layoffs at Deadrop: Midnight Society, the game studio behind the vertical-extraction shooter Deadrop, confirmed last week that it had laid off a “significant” portion of its staff—one employee claimed that 50% of the staff was let go, though it’s unclear how many people worked at the studio prior to the move. This comes just three months after the studio ended its relationship with Dr. Disrespect, a popular video game streamer and one of the studio’s co-founders.
Dr. Disrespect (aka Guy Beahm) had returned to streaming the previous week with a YouTube video titled “The Truth.” In this stream, he denied allegations that he had sent inappropriate messages to a minor, allegations that directly led to his removal from Midnight Society. This was despite previously admitting that he had had conversations with a minor that “leaned too far into the inappropriate.”
