OverTrip, a colorful third-person battle royale shooter, has launched on PC via the Epic Games Store, marking the beginning of its third season of in-game content. With this, the game has added a new “skill mode”, where players can bet real money on their performance, including the game’s newly released meme currency.
The game is a multi-chain project, with its token launched on Solana, with NFTs minted on the Ethereum mainnet, and plans to build on the Ethereum layer 2 network Soneium, which was developed by Sony in partnership with Startale.
OverTrip launched its Solana TRIP token via Pump.fun on November 30. This token is intended to be used to buy and sell skins within the game, delivered to players through numerous schemes, as well as to power the game’s “skill mode.”
TRIP is trading down 23% on the day, and now has a market capitalization of $5.5 million.
This new feature will allow players to place bets of $0.10, $0.50 or $0.99 on whether they finish in the top three of a match. If the bet is successful, the player will win tokens, but if not, they will lose everything they bet.
It also appears that the SuperVerse SUPER token will also be available to stake and win through skill mode. OverTrip has received an “Adults Only” (AO) rating from the ESRB due to its real money gambling elements.
Private lobbies with customizable betting terms, new skins and a deathmatch mode have also been added to the newly released OverTrip update. In its flagship battle royale mode, the free-to-play title previously dropped players into 20-player matches, but has now increased that figure to allow for 50-player battles for supremacy.
TRIP was launched stealthily on November 30, with 8% of the supply allocated to player rewards in the form of airdrops, another 4.2% allocated to marketing, and 4% to secure exchange listings and provide liquidity.
Interestingly, there was no formal token allocation to the team, although any team member could have purchased prior to the token announcement. The team states that an on-chain report is currently being worked on to provide greater transparency into the token’s distribution.
With this, players who participated in the game’s previous play-to-airdrop campaigns have received TRIP tokens through Trippy Terminal, which automatically created a Solana wallet for users.
But according to the game’s Discord, players are frustrated with what some have said are small airdrop allocations. One user joked that he dreamed of a Lamborghini, but quickly realized he didn’t have enough money to even buy a toy Lambo.
This is not a rare case. Game project airdrop campaigns often leave players feeling disappointed, as was the case with the avalanche of tap-to-earn games that mostly sent players “dust” after months of monotonous gameplay.
