These have been a tough few days for Cryptocurrency prices after several weeks of gains, with Dogecoin losing almost a quarter of its value in the last seven days, while the recently surging Bitcoin and XRP mark their own substantial drops, but less severe.
Dogecoin, the original meme coin and the largest by market capitalization, has a current price of $0.31, showing a drop of almost 5% on the day and a drop of 23% in the last seven days, according to data from CoinGecko.
DOGE had risen again to almost $0.35 on Saturday after falling to as low as $0.267 on Friday, the lowest price marked in more than a month. However, that bounce faded over the weekend.
The coin is still up 233% over the past year, but has lost substantial momentum since its peak of $0.48 reached in early December. That was a three-year high for Dogecoin.
Meme coins are famously volatile, and other major meme rivals have fallen even harder than Dogecoin in the last week, with Dogwifhat (WIF) down 32%, and Floki (FLOKI) and Pepe (PEPE) falling 27%. Shiba Inu (SHIB) has mirrored Dogecoin’s losses with a 23% drop this week.
Bitcoin, on the other hand, shows a drop of more than 7% this week to a current price of $95,140, although it has fallen 12% in the last five days since reaching a new all-time high above $108,000. XRP has fallen 9% in the past week to $2.21, falling sharply from reaching a seven-year peak of $2.82 earlier this month.
There is no coin in the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap that has fallen harder than Dogecoin this week, but a couple of other contenders are close to matching it: Ethereum is down 16%, Solana is down 18%, and Cardano It has lost 19% of its value during that period.
