The controversial founder of the Tron network, Justin Sun, ate a banana during a press conference this Friday. Last week, the businessman of Chinese origin made headlines by purchasing this banana for a price of $6.2 million dollars.
As might be expected, this is not an ordinary fruit, but rather a very high-profile one. This is a satirical artwork by Maurizio Cattelan (Comedian) that consists of a banana taped to the wall. This work was born as a criticism of the art market and was received very seriously by a large part of the collectibles sector.
So much so, that the work was auctioned at none other than Sotheby’s. On November 20, the aforementioned crypto businessman of Chinese origin became its owner. As already mentioned, Sun paid $6.2 million for this work and announced several related plans. In that sense, he said that he would eat it and also that he would buy 100,000 bananas from the original seller.
Of these two plans, only the first was fulfilled. This Friday, Justin Sun ate the expensive banana in front of the media in an attempt to spark new momentum for his network’s native token Tron (TRX). However, the objective was not met, since in the last 24 hours the price of the token remains almost flat, as shown by CoinMarketCap.
Many friends have asked me about the taste of the banana. To be honest, for a banana with such a back story, the taste is naturally different from an ordinary one. I could discern a hint of what Big Mike bananas from 100 years ago might have tasted like. 🍌 pic.twitter.com/Sz6zaePGpv

Justin Sun’s two promises about bananas
The banana artwork cost its creator 25 cents. Cattelan bought the banana for that price from a seller in New York. To reward the latter, Sun promised that he would buy him 100,000 bananas and distribute them around the world. Despite this, shortly afterwards it was learned that that plan was being reversed.
The merchant rejected the idea, citing logistical costs. He stated that the profits would not offset the cost of moving that amount of fruit. That caused the Tron founder’s team to cancel that promise. Sun’s marketing strategy seems to end this snack, which in South and Central America has a very low cost.
According to Justin Sun and the Tron community, this gesture has a symbolic meaning, given that the work represents a strong expression of meme culture. In simple words, the work and the act of eating it translate into a gesture that represents the emergence of the crypto world. On social networks, there was no shortage of criticism for this new episode of the controversial Sun.
Some criticized this as a waste of resources that could have been injected into charities or other crypto projects. In any case, if this snack from Sun benefits the TRX price rise, then one could say that it was a functional strategy in terms of results.
