Ethereum shooter Moonray is responsible for the largest free game NFT creation on OpenSea to date, after users created around 220,629 “Jadeon Adam” character skins in a 48-hour period.
This NFT creation provided players with an earthy green character skin that they can wear while fighting. The free NFTs, created on Coinbase’s Ethereum Base Layer 2 network, were claimed between November 19 and 21.
Moonray is an Ethereum-based combat arena game available on PC through the Epic Games store. They have previously run a play-to-airdrop campaign, rewarding players’ progression in the game with a portion of their soon-to-be-released MNRY token, and have also released NFTs that have provided small perks and bonuses.
“NFT-based in-game items, skins and more allow players to be the true owners of their items, becoming one of the best forms of mass adoption of cryptocurrencies and digital collectibles,” said Oliver Maroney, Head of Gaming at OpenSea, in a statement.
The game is also set to launch on PS5 next year, albeit without Cryptocurrency features at launch. Due to Sony’s cryptocurrency limitations, the skin will only be available to use on the PC version of the game.
Moonray was originally launched as the “first Bitcoin metaverse,” as it focused on action RPG elements and was being built on Bitcoin’s layer 2 network, Stacks. But the game changed focus to focus on combat and migrated to Ethereum.
Such a move allowed the game to launch NFTs on OpenSea, as the marketplace does not offer integration with Bitcoin. It has now reached a considerable number of players through the giveaway.
“The team is elated by the reception in our community and all the players who came forward and bought this limited edition collection,” Hans Andersson, founder and CBO of Moonray, said in a statement. “The team at OpenSea are absolutely fantastic and the support they have provided leading up to this mint has been incredible.”
